Lasagna Bolognese

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely grated
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup red wine (optional but classy)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 3 cup béchamel sauce (butter, flour, milk)
  • 1.5 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions; drain and lay flat.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery; cook 5–6 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute.
  5. Add ground beef and brown, breaking it up with a spoon.
  6. Pour in crushed tomatoes and red wine (if using). Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper; simmer 10–15 minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. Spread a thin layer of Bolognese on the bottom of a baking dish.
  8. Layer noodles, Bolognese, béchamel, and cheeses; repeat until ingredients are used, ending with béchamel and a final sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan.
  9. Bake 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  10. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
