One-Pan Shakshouka
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.5 tsp chili flakes (optional, for bravery)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 0.75 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley or cilantro
- Bread for serving (because forks alone are sad)
Steps
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Yes, actually wait until it's hot.
- Add onion and bell pepper; cook 5 minutes until soft and cooperative.
- Stir in garlic, cumin, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook 30 seconds before it burns and ruins your confidence.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 to 7 minutes until slightly thick.
- Make small wells in the sauce and crack eggs into them like a responsible adult.
- Cover and cook 4 to 6 minutes until whites are set and yolks are how you like them.
- Sprinkle herbs on top so it looks intentional. Serve with bread and minimal self-doubt.
