Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 3 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl; stir into the butter mixture.
  5. Mix in the oats and raisins or chocolate chips if using.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
