
Classic Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 0.33 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 4.5 cup all-purpose flour
- For the filling:
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- For the glaze:
- 1.5 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk or cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Steps
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs.
- Gradually add flour and knead (by hand or mixer) until a smooth, elastic dough forms, about 5–7 minutes.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a 16×20 inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Starting from a long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
- Cut into 12 equal slices and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Cover and let rise a second time for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- While warm, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over the warm rolls and serve.
